Back Home (for now)

Dear readers,

I am writing to you from my parents’ house, on an inflatable mattress, with seven suitcases scattered in the hallway, the dining room, and the bedrooms. The past week has been a crazy mess of packing, cleaning, and goodbyes. My degree is over, and I’m in this strange limbo that isn’t quite real life, but almost.

Tomorrow is my twentieth birthday, and in two months and a day, I will be on my way to Iceland for my first writing residency. Thank you so much to everyone who pledged to, shared, and supported my Kickstarter campaign. Without that, I don’t know what I would have done.

For now I really need to get back to my writing. I have taken a bit of an unintentional break, letting work and life get in the way. Every time this happens, I get nervous for next year when I’ll have to have a full-time day job to support myself and my writing. I fully realise that I’ve been spoiled, having the freedom to fully immerse myself in exactly what I wanted to do for the past three years, and again at the residency. After that the real challenge begins, and I’m nervous and excited to go through it all with you.

Thank you so much for being here,

Tamara Drazic

  1. First of all congratulations on your upcoming 20th birthday!! May there be many more!! All my best wishes to you!! I hope you have a great time tomorrow with your friends and loved ones!!

Also, yep, transitions are weird , there’s no other way for them to be described as. You step a bit -or a whole lot- out of your comfort zone and face life, a life full of possibilities and the chance to shape it to your complete liking; there are gonna be challenges and at times it will be difficult, but there are going to be moments of awe, laughter and joy as well and overcoming the bad and the unknown is only gonna make you grow a little wiser and prouder of what you are and where you are as you get there.

You are going to do great, for now let life get in the way, enjoy your family and friends, go out, do whatever but work right now; all those memories may very well inspire a bit or two of your writing later on and from what I have been reading on your posts, there’s simply no way Tamara Drazic is going to find herself without inspiration or resources to do what she loves.

Happy Holidays and greetings from Mexico!!!

    P. S. You are going to do great in Iceland!

    1. Thank you so much for all of your encouragement Hector! I will remember to read back over this comment whenever things are looking a little bleak! I really can’t thank you enough for all of your nice words, and for always checking in. It’s so nice to know that there are people out there that are interested in what I do, even though we’ve never met. I hope everything is going well for you!
